2024 FORAGING EVENTS
NOV-DEC EVENTS
November and December can be surprisingly incredible months for wild mushrooms! Cryophilic mushrooms are mushrooms that thrive in ultra-low temperatures. Typically, once the really cold weather arrives, we see mushrooms like enokis, blewits, oysters and late oysters, lions mane and bears head, and brick caps. Enoki mushrooms have evolved to produce a compound that acts as an anti-freeze, allowing it to survive sub-zero temperatures. We were finding an abundance of enokis from November 2023 into February of 2024!
2025 FORAGING EVENTS
APR-MAY EVENTS
The ground comes alive in April, and from then through May and June we find delicious edible spring mushrooms! Gyromitra species (often called false morels) can be just as desirable as Morchella species (real morels), and they can sometimes even be found while there is snow on the ground. Other edible spring mushrooms include pheasant back, mica caps, shaggy manes, and occasionally oyster mushrooms and chicken-of-the-woods.
JUNE-JULY EVENTS
June marks the end of the spring mushrooms, and the beginning of some of the most fantastic mushrooms of the year. Chanterelles and Porcinis begin to make their appearance, as do milk caps, tasty green russulas, oyster mushrooms, chicken-of-the-woods, blusher amanitas, and many more.
